Reportedly invented by Dr. Bernhard Funk in Samoa circa 1910 — rum, lime, grenadine, and absinthe. Donn Beach popularized a tiki version; this is the proto-tiki original.

Ingredients
- Jamaican Dark Rum2 oz
- Fresh Lime Juice0.5 oz
- Grenadine0.5 oz
- Absinthe1 dash
- Soda Water2 oz
- Mint Sprig1 piece
- Lime Wheel1 piece
Method
- Add all ingredients to shaker with ice
- Shake hard
- Strain into collins glass over crushed ice
- Top with soda water
- Garnish with mint sprig and lime wheel
