About

The Service Well is built by working bartenders, for working bartenders.

Why this exists

The reference material for our craft is scattered across a hundred different books, websites, scribbled notebooks, and "ask the senior bartender" tribal knowledge. None of it travels with you when the bar gets slammed and a regular orders something you've never heard of.

The Service Well is the working reference we always wanted — recipes you can trust, techniques explained the way they're actually taught on the line, and tools that solve real problems behind the bar (batching, costing, pairing, substitutions, service area floor plans, party-mode session tracking) without forcing you through a twelve-step spreadsheet workflow during a Friday rush.

It's free to use, paid plans hide ads and unlock heavier AI use, and a small slice of what we earn keeps the lights on at Moonlit Social Labs, an independent two-person operation building tools for people who do real work.

Who builds this

Michael Wylde — founder, designer, and engineer. Bartended through college and never quite stopped paying attention to the craft. Builds Moonlit Social Labs full-time.

How we make decisions

Every feature has to pass three filters before we ship it:

  • Does it save real time on a real shift? If we can't picture a working bartender pulling out their phone and using it during service, it doesn't ship.
  • Is the source material trustworthy? Recipes come from canon (Jerry Thomas, Harry Johnson, Craddock, Mr. Boston) and from modern sources we can cite. We don't make up cocktails to pad the database.
  • Does it respect your attention? No dark patterns, no "are you sure?" upsells, no email harvesting. Free tier is actually useful, paid tier is actually different.
Support the project

We're not VC-backed and we don't run user data through a hundred trackers. The app stays free for the people who need it because some users chip in.
