From Modern American Drinks by George J. Kappeler (1900). Original recipe: "Crush half a lemon in a Briggs House glass, add one tablespoonful fine sugar, one lump ice, one jigger whiskey; mix well, trim with fruit, add a squirt of seltzer. Serve."

Method
- Add sugar and whiskey to mixing glass with ice
- Stir until well chilled
- Strain into chilled rocks glass
