From Modern American Drinks by George J. Kappeler (1900). Original recipe: "A mixing-glass half-full of fine ice, two dashes gum syrup, one pony absinthe, one-half pony Italian vermouth, one-half pony whiskey. Mix well, strain into thin glass, fill with seltzer."

Ingredients
- Simple Syrup2 dashes
- Absinthe1 oz
- Sweet Vermouth0.5 oz
- whiskey0.5 oz
Method
- Add simple syrup, absinthe, sweet vermouth, and whiskey to mixing glass with ice
- Stir until well chilled
- Strain into chilled rocks glass
