Ingredients
- Ruby Port2 oz
- Dry Red Wine4 oz
- Roasted Clove-Studded Orange0.5 piece
- Sugar1 tbsp
- Orange Peel1 twist
Method
- Roast clove-studded oranges at 350°F for 1 hour
- Squeeze the roasted oranges into a pot with wine, port, and sugar
- Warm over low heat 30 minutes
- Strain into warmed mug, garnish with orange twist
Pro Tips
- Roast oranges an hour, not less — the sugars need to caramelize.
- Ruby port is the traditional choice; tawny is too nutty. LBV works beautifully.
- Dickens served it warm, not hot — no one's supposed to burn their tongue on Christmas.
